Born Kent UK, 1952

The British painter Peter Care has for many years lived and worked on the continent, but in 2008 returned to live in England and now works from his studio on the Oxfordshire / Gloucestershire border.

Graduating in 1973 with a 1st in Studio Ceramics, he took up the offer of a teaching post in Brussels, establishing his first studio there in 1975. Exhibiting widely in Brussels, Gent and in the UK, his first solo exhibition was held in Brussels at Galerie Camomille in 1979.

During the 1980's after returning to the UK and establishing a studio in the Cotswolds, he was best known as a ceramist working in porcelain. Winning a number of International awards for his work, he exhibited not only in the UK, but also on the continent and the USA. His work at this time was totally abstract and sculptural, consisting of interlocking hand constructed forms.

In 1988 an opportunity to move to the Netherlands resulted in a twenty year period of exhibiting mainly in Holland and Germany, both in galleries and International Art Fairs. It was during this time that he returned to working as a painter and has shown continuously with a small core of galleries, some for more than fifteen years.

His paintings are constructed from layers of wet paint which form the beginning of the working process. Like painting in reverse, he scrapes, smears and in other ways removes the paint from the canvas, revealing and obscuring what lies hidden. Making visible the invisible.
